|
|
Dear Sefians,
As per Euro code 8 we have to consider Behaviour factor to work out the total horizontal siesmic forces on the structure. As code suggests to Use q = 4 to 6 as a factor for Dissipitive structures (DCM & DCH structures) but when we use 4 as a factor code asks us to use ductile connections or dissipative structural connection but dont provide any information about dissipative connection to be (Except the use of b/t ration & bracings as dissipative measures).
I have serched in various manuals and asked many seniors but no one is sure about the value. lots of people consideres q =1.5 as a factor to be on conservative side but use of this factor gives very huge earthquake forces making structure very uneconmical.
I request to all the experienced members to share there views and guide me.
Thanks in advance

Dear Er Rahul,
Thank you For the reply.
Yes, you are right this is it; But for steel structures which factor to be used and how ( with the required detailing) is the question.
Reagrds,
Shyam Kaware
