(in continuation from previous post)

Born in Lahore , in undivided India , Raj was fortunate  to travel to East Punjab ( this side ) on 11th August 1947 on last unattacked train.
Raj came from a family of engineers as his father and two elder brothers were engineers. His love for mathematics made engineering as natural choice. After graduating , he joined Punjab PWD as Assistant engineer and was in Simla to oversee Hill Road construction. His aptitude on structural design was known in the Department and  he was posted to assist Architect Le Corbusier in Chandigarh .

He attained Masters in structures from University of Minnesota , later taken advanced course in Structures at Columbian University on Scholarship.  He returned back to India and established own Practice in Bombay in 1960.

His Structural design excellence  reverberated in the structures created by various Architects with  Mahendra Raj 's  pivotal role , advice and concepts giving Country many - firsts. MAHENDRA RAJ ( 1924) - STILL ACTIVE
( in continuation from previous post)

Mahendra Raj  gave space structures at times , when there were no softwares ( not even a simple software like axle to carry sums/multiplications/formulations    ) ,  electronic calculators were not there , only Log tables and Slide rules were available  for calculations.  In the manual design era , Raj   gave complicated structural formations , speaks volumes about his excellence in structural creativity   and deep  imaginations.

He established his Consultancy office in Jang pura , Delhi  after moving from Bombay long back. The office is named as MAHENDRA RAJ CONSULTANT S.

He is an active member of International Federation of Civil Engineers.  He wholeheartedly helped in setting up of Consultancy Development Center ,CDC, at New Delhi. He received many awards and recognitions.

Though , due to paucity of time , I think , he has not penned any book  , but his son Rohit Raj Mehendirratta  & Vandini Mehta (wife of Rohit Raj) - both Architects  alonwith Ariel Huber  gave a book on Mahendra Raj's Structural works . The name of Book is ' THE STRUCTURE WORKS OF MAHENDRA RAJ'.

As learnt , one can always see him on evening walk in Lodhi Gardens but very  few can match his pace.
