Hi Sefians,

I am trying to design a fixed base plate as per Chapter 12 of IS:800. As per my understanding following are the load cases I am considering while designing the base plate: (Column and Brace sections are considered Plastic sections)

Request your feedback on my understanding.

If someone can guide me to some solved example or some book that would be great help.

Dear Friends


Chapter 12 of IS: 800 is being revised and rationalized. The EQ provisions in IS:800 is likely to be aseparatepart of IS:1893. When there was a wide circulation of that, very few responded.


Designers wish to exchange reliability for the economy. The clients often specify the cap on the steel tonnage and then ask the designers to design within that bracket. I faced the same issue in the design of a major project. We must sensitize the clientsthat the reliability baseline cannot be lowered.


Since such revisions come into vogue, we may have to extend the usage of IS:800 for EQ provisions.


On first look, the design combinationsappear to be correct.

Following these cases, specially shear capacity clauses are very difficult in practical design.
