Dear Sefians,
Is it compulsory to provide minimum grade of concrete M-40 for bridges in snow bound areas or there are other considerations that may be accounted for proposing a lower grade of concrete in bridges in such areas

As per irc 21 (2000 ) version :-
For Pre stressed conc bridges,, bridges having length >60 m Or bridges constructed using innovative technology -

Moderate conditions
Pcc members M 25
Rcc members M30
PSC members M35

Severe conditions
Pcc members M 30
Rcc members M35
PSC members M40

For Other Bridges and Culverts

Moderate conditions
Pcc members M 15
Rcc members M20


Severe conditions
Pcc members M 20
Rcc members M 25



Snow bound areas can be taken in severe conditions

If snowfall in area is less and most of year the structures are not in snow,, Moderate conditions of exposure can be nearly taken,,
Also pl see the bridge,, whether RCC or Pre stressed,,  and take minimum mix adopted as per IRC
