Dear All,
Shall we design a 16m x 16m hall without any center column support?
Will it be economical to use the larger size column on both ends or a flat slab system?
Kindly guide me on this.
Thanks & Regards,
Ramu.

Dear sir,
I will prefer 16x 16 as required.
1. If it has only roof .. go for dome or pyramid roof if Architect agrees.
2. Hollow block concrete floor with peripheral beams. Should be cool to temp. And may be economical.
3. Two way ribs also can work.
Further also we can look for options.
Thanks.

16*16 m Hall
There is not any problem for column free Hall of this size,,
Cost will be more viz a viz a central column proposal.
With central column,, may be of circular shape,, will reduce the spans to half and steel and conc consumption is greatly reduced. The central column is mostly subjected to vertical load under normal case,, but subject to seismic moments under eq cases.

Dear Er,,
On sefi,, we can not /will not give any cognizance to calculations nor comment.
Request you to show it to yr senior str Er Or your proof checker.
Providing 16*16m slab is NOT a solution to yr problem,,
Better provide 4 bays of 4 m crs and 16m span, if you do not want to provide central column.
Since it is single span system with 16m spans,, (4*16m , four nos of bays) Beam and Slab system will be best,
Flat slab as tried by you is not structurally sound.
Hope you will not see any negativity above but a caution.
Again request to consult yr Senior Structural Engineer / yr Proof consultant and show him yr thoughts and calcs .

Yes, coffered slab is best and economical option.
But columns on periphery needs to be at about 4.0m crs.

Dear Sir,The hall can be designed as without intermediate column with grid floor
slab with 2m spacing beam with nominal slab thickness say 80mm /100 mm.
you can also provide intermediate regular beam dividing hall into 3 or 4 span on one side..
But beam is not preferable in a hall. You can go for grid floor.
