Effective Live Load under Earthquake Condition:
I would suggest that we ignore live load (weight carried by the crane - not its dead weight) while considering earthquake forces. The reasons are as follows: 1. It is highly unlikely that maximum earthquake will occur simultaneously with maximum live load 2. The sling and the mass will behave as a pendulum and they could act as vibration absorber 3. The crane carriage is friction mounted and the crane is also mounted on wheels on the crane girder with small frcition
We should debate this item and may be arrive at a factor like 20% eventually
Industrial structures are alone candidates for steel construction in India and hence crane loads are important.
