Dear Sefians,
Good morning and wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, this query is regarding one of the clause in IBC for fire rating of
the roof construction. I appreciate if some of you can correctly interpret
the clause.
Refer to chapter 6, table 601, item- roof construction including
supporting beams and joist, construction type I to V, and refer to note c
item 1 below the same.
It says fire protection for roof construction is not required for certain
class of buildings if  ".........every part of the roof construction is 20
feet or more above any floor immediately below.......). I have a situation
where roof is leaning and as such some part (less than 10 percent) of roof
is falling below 20 feet height, hence I can not make use of the above
note in minimising the fire protection for steel roof. My question is- can
I provide fire protection for all roof elements falling within 20 feet and
leave the rest without fire proofing?
I appreciate if few of our experienced people can interpret and clarify
the above.
