Hi sir,

I have two doubts regarding

1)How can we calculate punching shear force around for an intermediate floor?

2)Is it necessary to consider beam shear?

Dear Mr. Kishku
1. Calculation of punching shear is quite simple and is explained well in almost all the RCC books. One needs to
a. calculate the load contribution(say total load) from the slabs around the column,
b. calculate the load that directly passes into the column within the conical(pyramidal) area around the column
c. subtract it from the total load to get the load that causes punching shear.
d. to the above you need to add the shear transferred due to unbalanced moments (or lateral load action)at the column-slab interface to get the total shear at the critical sections.
e. there is no difference in the method whether the slab is intermediate floor or top floor.
2. Beam shear is not to be confused with slab shear. Punching failure occurs only due to two-way shear in a slab column junction.
