dear sefians
I would like to model a wall panel as equivalent strut in Staad.
How i have to model this in Staad?
I f possible kindly send one sample file.

I can suggest about Modelling in SAP.
- Model wall's parameter as per FEMA-356, (easy to calculate).
- Draw struct member, assign corrsponding properties.
- if u r gojng for a non-linear analysis, assign Axial compression hinge.
- Set tension force=0 limit. (Compression only member)
I think the same u can modify for STAAD modelling. |

I'd add to the above, the following
- You can refer to Proposed Draft to IS:1893 (from NICEE's web site) for finding properties to be assigned to the diagonal strut representing masonry infills.
- You can follow Pankaj Agarwal's book for walls with openings.
- If you are doing a response spectrum analysis (which in turn does an eigen modal extraction), 'Compression only member' option won't work, so leave it.
- Here, since you are modelling the effect of infills, the check of "Vb_bar/Vb" need not be done, as per the code. |

I'm sorry I made a mistake in my last post above. It is not the the check of "Vb_bar/Vb" that need not be done, but the multiplication of columns forces by 2.5 and shear wall forces by 1.5 for soft stories that be done away with, as per the code. |

I m PG student from VNIT Nagpur i m working on STAAD :
U can use IS 1893 for properties of strut and use compression member only in STAAD that will work for responce spectrum analysis too
