Prof. S. B. Junnarkar

Principal Shripatirav Balvanrav Junnarkar born on 29-10-1895, was a grand child of Shri Ramchanra Shivaji who was a Minister (Diwan) of Princely state of Junagadh , migrated from Junnar Village of Ahemadnagar District of Maharashtra. After completion of Matriculation at the age of sixteen he joined Elfinsten college of Bombay and passed his B.A. with Mathematics in 1916 and went for further studies in U.K. in 1918 in Kings College of London University and obtained B.Sc. in 1921 and came back to Gujarat. He then worked at the Department of Development Bombay (Honorary) for very short period. He went to Karanchi (then part of India) and joined Port Trust in 1923. Later he joined Vadodara State and ultimately joined Nadirsha Edajee Dinsha (NED) Engineering College , Karanchi as a vice Principal in 1923 under the principalship of Prof. V.N. Gokhale and later became principal of that college in 1935.He worked there upto August 1947 and joined team of Bhaikaka as founder Principal of the college which was under construction at that time and gradually invited his dedicated team from the NED to join BVM. The college was inaugurated on 14th June 1948 and started functioning from 20th June 1948 with an intake of 150 degree and 55 diploma stream. The college started with some of rooms without roof but had a parental solid care of ‘KAKA’ nick name given to him by the students. He accepted to construct the building and bring up the workshop and laboratories of BVM and stayed in a 10’x10’ room accommodation initially with his family members till college started in June 1948. He was an excellent human being and dedicated learned technical teacher who wrote books of Engineering Subjects related to his subjects of Applied Mechanics, Mechanics of Structure and Theory of Structures and the like. Because of his extraordinary personality he was invited to help in establishing the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Kala Bhavan, Baroda for diploma programme during 1951 and 1952. On completion of 60 th year on 29th October 1954 a grand birthday celebration was arranged and a cheque of Rs 27751 was presented to him . Students loved him and a grand celebration was organised in his honour for the birthday and the farewell.
